New Years Eve

It is New Years Eve here at Q headquarters and like many years past the weather is blowing a storm and the rain is occasionally dripping down.  Just enough to ruin mums chances of getting her hair to stay in one place and keep her looking like a homeless person.  Better luck next year mum.  Mum is only going out with her besties to try and find somewhere to eat and then to watch the Hobbit!!  Yahhooo for middle aged lady outings - they will be sure to be home by 10:30pm!!

Thanks for joining us on our journey through 2014 and we hope to see you all in the New Year.

Sleeps

Mum says the combination of middle aged lady brain hormones  and disturbed sleep after 5 nights of being on call is a killer.  She tossed and turned til close to 4am this morning, before her eyes finally closed.  The good thing about having some days off is there is not the added stress of knowing you have to get up hours later to start your day.  So in order to avoid napping in the afternoon, and to burn off energy she went for a big long walk around the place.  It was a lovely afternoon, and with rain clouds threatening to ruin the next few days, mum took her chances outside.

Me - well I have been camping on the number one spot.  Mum says it is unusual for me to sleep up here alongside her, especially as it means she can reach over and pat me during the night.  Still she is happy if I am happy.

So it is close to midnight and mum says she feels it is time to turn in, read her book for a while and then she should be ready to sleep soon.  Sweet sleeps everybuddy.

Hipster Holy Grail

So because all the young hipsters have vacated our city to spread their beardy joy to their families in the provinces, mum was able to finally buy the holy grail of trendy dining her in NZ.  Yes - she finally was able to buy a bottle of Lewis Road Creamery Whittakers Chocolate Milk.  You see months ago, this little boutique milk product company brought out this marriage of their milk and NZ produced chocolate.  It was only available in a selected few shops around the country and was snapped up as soon as it arrived.  It is the Elmo/Xbox/Iphone of flavoured milks you see.  Our supermarket gets a few bottles a week, but they are often reserved or sold out straight away, but as the middle aged muster cruised past the shelves she managed to snap up two bottles.

What did she think?  Well it was nice, but not out of this world I am going to die for it nice.  But at least she might be able to show off in front of the twenty somethings at work, and be up with what the cool kids like.
Oh and this little fellow who assisted with the modeling?  This is Milo  the Ursabob.  Our friend Pia in Sweden has got us addicted.

Oh and mum got to hand the on call phone back at work.  She now has some days off to relax and has already finished her first book from the pile.

Derby

It was with great sadness today that we heard about our mate Derby, who had to make an unexpected exit to the bridge.  He was a fine mancat who was greatly loved by his mom and his brother Ducky, and will be sadly missed by so many of his friends.  Sweet Dreams Derby.

Tired Caturday

Today was a quiet Caturday at the house of Q.  Mum was at work til 4amish and I was in the garden standing guard til she got home.  Of course as soon as she got in, she discovered she had forgotten to take the rubbish bag out and had to climb down the 45 stairs outside our house and then back up again.  Then I ran down to sniff the bags and wouldn't come home so she climbed down again to talk me into coming home.  So she was exhausted getting home.

I did let her sleep in til 10am this morning, but she wanted to get up anyway to go the library to pick up some new books and to go to the supermarket to pick up some dinner - steak and coleslaw for her and fancy feast for me.  Washing was done and the sheets are on the line, dishes sat in the sink and can be done tomorrow, but mum did put a treatment on her hair and have a shower!!!

Hope you all got some relaxing done too.  Enjoy your Caturday everybuddy!!

Boxing Day

Mums on call night was not too bad - she got home and to bed by 3am this morning.  So she was up and about just after 8.  A quick trip through town which was crazy busy by 10am with people pursuing the sales.  Mum instead headed out of town to visit her good friends who live beside the sea in a small village.  They were having a tasty lunch of steamed dumplings and salad.  Boy was it good.  Then a tasty orange cake and mum needed a quick walk.  The sun had begun to shine and luckily there was a little breeze to keep it nice and cool.

Then mum darted home in time to play with me, do some washing, cook dinner and relax before the call phone goes on again in 10 minutes.

Mum was thinking of last Boxing Day - which we had to spend at the emergency vet after my bunged up eye.  Such drama.

Hope you all got to do some fun stuff today too!!

Merry Christmas Everybuddy!!

Merry Christmas to all of our lovely friends.  Mum worked the long shift last night and in fact was at work til 4am this morning, so she had a little lie in both on her bed and on the couch this morning.  It is coolish and grey here in the capital city, so she does not feel guilty for lying around and watching Christmas movies and reading one of her many books.  There has been lots of feasting and getting in touch with friends and family.

So from our house to yours - we wish you good things, good times together and a lovely festive season.  Eat drink and be merry!!

Love mum and poppy Q

Lucky

Today it was lucky that I was there to play nurse Poppy.  Mum had a restless night not feeling very well, and felt horrible all morning.  Luckily things settled down about lunchtime as mum had to go to work at 2.30pm.  She said my nursing skills came in handy.  So tonight she is hoping for a good long sleep, as she will be on call for the next four nights.  Wish her luck!!

Summer Change

In the hopes of enticing summer to our shores, mum swapped out the grey/black winter combos for a bright quilt cover and a nice blue quilt to warm her toes.  It was on the bed by midnight and by 7am when mum awoke there was a big  nice pussy cat added smear across it.  Ahhh mum said - this is why I can't have pretty white bed covers.

Mums sleep is all topsy turvy after her night shift last week, but tonight she feels sleepy enough to attempt a full nights rest.  She braved the supermarket after work, but it wasn't too bad as it appears all the under 25 year old who live round the area have headed home, leaving just a few family groups so mum stocked up on festive foods and drinks.

Hope you are all prepared too and not too flustered.

Sweet

Oh man, mum says it is hard to get good pictures of little kittens, cos they run all over the place and chase the camera and balls and string and stuff.  Mum took a few, but thinks these ones might be the best ones of the bunch.

So she had a grand day yesterday.  She met some friends out and about, and they went  for sushi at the market which was nice as the Salvation Army brass band were playing Christmas carols.  Then they went for a spot of shopping before visiting mums friends for  a nice walk by the beach and fresh fish and salad for dinner.

Mum then went out today to meet some besties and they did a wee wander around the shops and had a lovely lunch out.  Mum then had to have a nap on the couch imbetween loads of washing.  There was a four hour hiatus from the rain, as we have had 5 days in a row of rainy weather.  We are soo over it.   But we know we mustn't complain for at least it is not snow.  That is cold and deep and you have to shovel.  And for sure soon we will be complaining about how hot we are and how we need a fan.

Me - I stayed home and relaxed all weekend.

Caturday

Mum went and spent the day with some lovely friends today, who have got these precious two babies in their family.  Dust the lovely grey boy and Storm the pretty tabby cat.  In love already!!

Good Bye Sweet Beau Beau

Like many in the cat blogosphere, one of the first blogs that we read were about the wonderful Beau Beau and Angie .  It was with a sad heart that mum read about the passing of this handsome mancat this morning, and she must admit to crying a few tears at work when reading the post.  We know how much he was loved by his family and how sad they will be at the moment with a huge pussy cat hole in their hearts.

Sleep well handsome boy.

All our love

One More Sleep

One more sleep for me and mums night shifts are over, she has finally made it to the end.  They haven't been so bad although mum was quite busy last night for the first three hours running here and there.  She did get to put her feet up around 4am which was nice.  She couldn't figure out if she was sweating cos she was busy or she was having a middle aged lady flush.  Ahhh the 40s are a great age!!

So today was rainy and cool and mum managed to sleep til 2pm which was good.  She'll take 5 hours sleep.  Luckily she was up before the builders delivered some wood for a new fence they are building next week.  So that will be a lot of noise and disruption for me.

Anyway sweet sleepy dreams to you all.

Sleeps

So the mumster did her first of four night shifts last night/this morning.  She was quite busy, but in the morning was able to be glued to the television to watch the end of that dreadful day in Sydney.  The world is a crazy place sometimes, and mum and I would wish that more people would just learn to get along.  To relax - be like a cat!

So mum stopped off at the supermarket on the way home which was good as she ran into a friend who she might not have seen otherwise and they had  a quick chat.  Then off home for  a wee breakfast before hitting the bed.  She slept from about 8.30am - 1pm when the courier man dropped off a parcel, and that and a text message woke mum up.  So she showered and went out for a walk, as it was another glorious day.

Then home for a bit of pottering around and now her eyelids are heavy, but she has drag herself  back to work for another night.

Me - well I am just chilling.  I didn't join mum for a sleep - instead I was outside all day as it was lovely and sunny and warm, but rain is forecast for the rest of the week, so mum might have to expect some company on the bed (me that is).

Sweet dreams everybuddy!

Birkenstock Weather

Here I am modelling this seasons choice of mum birkenstocks.  In fact, they were on sale, so mum splurged and got two, as they are her fave summer sandal.  Today was a ripper - an almost summers day of warm with a slight breeze and hardly a cloud in the sky which was nice for us.  Mum opened the doors and windows and popped some washing on the line.  She then took herself out for  a big stroll beside the beach and organised the last of the Christmas presents.  Yippeee.  Which is good because she now has some nightshifts to contend with.

So hope you all had a nice Monday!!!

Sunday Relaxing

It is Sunday afternoon, and mum is preparing for another afternoon shift.  That means a quick nap on the bed with me at 2pm, then get up and put her face and uniform on.  Still, she was up early and got washing on the line, hoovered, did some dishes and got to the supermarket, which is the most productive she has been all week.  Ohh and she managed to make lunch and do a family phone call as well.

A bit of book reading Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult and a bit of TV watching - she has been watching the Documentry on the Liberty shop in London which makes her smile.  All good things to make a mum relax.

Hope you are getting some relaxing done too.

Caturday

Oh man it is raining again here for something like the fourth day in a row.  Of course mum, being the pessimist that she is knows that the sun will be shining from Monday onwards, only because her nightshift starts that night and she needs to sleep during the day (also the weather lady on tv said so).  Still being a rubbish day does have its benefits, it meant mum didn't go to the supermarket and we got extra snuggles and a sleep in, so I'm all good.

Do you like my green apartment?  Mum gifted me this shopping bag for supervised snoozing in.  I think the colour suits me!!

Enjoy your Caturday - have some fun!!!!

Busyness

After all our relaxicating over the past couple of days, mum is about to enter her busiest period before Christmas.  A mixture of afternoon shifts and nightshifts means that she will have not enough sleep and not enough foods in the next seven days.  Her appetite always disappears on night shift, but with the holidays coming up she knows that there will be plenty of calories to make up for it soon.

So I am in charge of the house and making sure the bed is nice and cosy for when she comes home.  This time next week we will be able to wind down which is good.

Restful

Mum has had two days off and she has spent them quietly at home with me.  Yesterday the weather was ridiculous, it rained all day without a break, and today was just grey and cloudy.  Mum said she had enough to entertain her at home, so some chores were done and  a lot of show watching and book reading done.  Mum said it was tempting to go out and spend money, but enough money has been spent over the festive season, and it is time to close up the wallet, as everything will be discounted in two weeks, and mum needs to save some money so that she can enjoy her days off.

The good thing about hanging out at home has been that it has been very restful.  For her and for me.

Reindeer Love

Mum was pleased to spot this little fellow in the shop yesterday.  He was on his lonely lonesome so mum thought she would adopt him.
So that he could come and live with us and perform his christmas duties.
We love his jaunty little scarf with a few little bits of winter holly berries tucked underneath.
Welcome to our house little Mr reindeer.

Christmas Mantle

Today mum was out and about and found these lovely little red Christmas lights and two reindeer who decided to come and spend Christmas at our house.  So we changed up the mantle for a bit of festive cheer which made mum happy.

Today was also the annual fair day here in town, so mum and the besties met up for early brunch and then off to the fair.  As they rolled up, so did the rain.  Mum did feel sorry for the sales people as many had travelled from around the country and the rain made it very difficult for them.  Mum did buy a couple of little treats, but she was glad to get home and spend the afternoon reading on the bed with me (which means napping).

Sunday evenings are usually an easy dinner and ring the family to catch up on the weeks gossip.  Then a few chores before bed.  In fact it is 11pm, and mum has some dishes in the sink, a uniform in the wash and still is making the bed with me.  Luckily it is a late start in the morning for her, so no need to rush, she can get all the quick jobs done in 20 minutes.  So must go!!

Caturday Crisis

Hi Caturday kitties - are you having fun?

The mumster and I had a big sleep in.  Even though I tried to wake her to make her aware of the big biscuit crisis of 2014 she wasn't budging.  Then she got up and raced to the shower, cleaned up, fixed the biscuit crisis (hallelujah) and got dried and gussied up.  She says that she headed out to do some christmas business and then went to meet a bestie for dinner.  At least she got home for feast time - rather late at 9pm but still good for me.

I think I am all caught up after 20 hours snoozing today, but am back on the bed for a little after feast snoozeathon.  I'll be coming up for air (and biscuits) around 7am!

Hope you had some fun today everybuddy!!!

Oh Little Christmas Tree

Mum put up the little Christmas Tree this week, we can't believe it is only 20 days til the big day.  She got this little black tree, some little decorations and copper lights to make it sparkle.  Just perfect for us two and easy to store as it takes up little space, and we only have a little space to store it.

All ready for the weekend!!!  Some washing is done and we are ready to have fun!!!

Found

Normally at night mum tucks her cellphone onto the nightstand beside her bed, as she uses it as an alarm clock, then it is tucked into her bag as she heads off to work.  The past two days, she had thought her phone was lost, as she looked around and could not find it.  It is five years old and a most untready Nokia - not a sleek smartphone like everyone else mums sees.  Still it works fine and truth be told, mum needs only to make a few texts and calls a week on it as she still has an old fashioned landline.

Also, budget makes a smartphone a tad expensive to both buy and run, and mum is trying to count the pennies.  So her only excuse for a new phone is either lose or break the one she has, and so far it is indestructible.

So last night, after another search she found it, as it had slipped off the nightstand was under the rug beside her bed.  It surely must have nine lives too - just like me!!!

Are any of you still hanging on to an old phone?   Or is mum the only one?
